New Ripple Project completed: A changing room & floor art for the Honesty Library

And we did it again...!

Over the past eight weeks, a group of Rippleacts volunteers researched, planned, sawed, drilled, cemented, designed, managed, sweated, sanded, painted, and succeeded; giving the Honesty Library at Castle Quarter a new look and expanded use!

The Honesty Library is a popular community space run by local charity New-U, who provide work experience placements in their pre-loved clothing boutique next door. Guided by local carpenter Dan Turner, our Ripple team did their magic and....

• Installed a new door and created a fitting room which is now used for clothing sales of the charity

• Turned 10 large floor holes into a jigsaw art piece

• Redecorated the space in a new, refreshed look

As usual in our projects, the challenge of working in a diverse team towards an ambitious result under time and budget constraints brought many hidden skills to the light. Our participants, who are looking for work, showed talents as project leaders, handymen, support workers, graphic designers and much more. Come over to Castle Quarter to have a look, and see if you can mentally assemble the jigsaw pieces on the floor to the completed design piece displayed on the wall!

Our Ripple Projects are a pro bono contribution to the local community, strengthening other non-profit organisations in their reach and impact. Passing on the "ripple of kindness" is an important part of our work supporting people who are out of work to rediscover and apply their skills and confidence.
