It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and this year the theme is community.
To celebrate we've asked Breanne Cook, one of our fantastic coaches, for her reflections and thoughts on the links between coaching and the fostering of community.

One of the things I have valued most about facilitating the coaching course is the strong sense of community that grows between participants. The peer support that develops is something very special. Watching it unfold is beautiful; it’s built through kindness towards each other, deep listening, encouragement and celebration of other’s successes.
Throughout the course, you can see how communication and support strengthen each person’s experience, giving a real sense of belonging.
What stands out is the way people meet each other with a mutual respect and understanding. Experiences are validated, emotions are acknowledged, and space is held which creates an environment where people feel seen, heard, and supported which in turn motivates participants to work towards their future goals.
Shared experiences play a big part in this. As people open up about their own journeys, our shared common humanity reminds everyone that they are not alone. It brings comfort to know that whilst all participants are unique, there are similarities and the shared experience then builds confidence to share more openly, and strengthens the learning process and how much participants engage and feel empowered by the group activities.

Different roles seem to naturally emerge in the group. Some people are quiet and encouraging, offering gentle support when it’s needed. Others are curious and ask thoughtful questions that help deepen reflection. Some lead by sharing vulnerably, giving others permission to do the same. Others offer a grounding presence.
Every role in the group is important and welcome and together they create a community where everyone has something meaningful to bring.
The peer support within Rippleacts is, I feel, one of its greatest strengths. It builds safety, normalises the human experience, and empowers participants to reflect, learn, and move forward together.
