Clarity and Confidence: The benefits of Executive Coaching for you and your team.

You've probably heard us talking about coaching and the many benefits it brings for people who are unemployed but did you know it can help you in your job as well? Louise Colbridge, one of our fantastic coaches, has written a guest blog on why coaching is an important tool for the workplace.

If your idea of coaching comes from watching the TV show Billions, you might be mistaken for thinking it’s all about high-pressure pep talks and (sometimes quite terrifying) performance hacks. Not that they don’t exist, but most accredited coaches work very differently to that. For me, coaching has always been about transformation from the inside out. I don’t believe that anyone needs ‘fixing’, you’re not broken and you absolutely cannot be turned into a corporate machine against your will.

My own experience of coaching came at a time when I felt professionally lost.

One transformative conversation sparked a journey of self-discovery that I have committed to since that first coaching session. The awareness I have gained about myself has been transformational and changed my life in so many unimaginable ways. And the wonderful thing is, I’ve been able to share these tools and learning with clients from all over the world. Alongside my own journey of self discovery, I’m grateful to have witnessed the growth in others too. And all of this has been possible through coaching.

Executive coaching in the workplace is not a tick box exercise or reward for good behaviour. It’s a powerful process that builds emotional intelligence, self-awareness and ultimately confidence in yourself, your abilities and your decision making. These are essential foundations of strong leadership, resilient teams and being able to participate in meaningful work. In my experience, even the most sceptical clients – the ones who say ‘I don’t want to change’ – end up seeing things differently. Coaching doesn’t force change. It creates space for reflection, insight and growth. And once we are open to seeing ourselves (and others) from different perspectives, we can start showing up differently. Being able to challenge our own beliefs and ‘stories’, and to start acknowledging and questioning where some of those are holding us back is where the real shift happens.

Here's what I believe coaching builds:

  • Self-awareness: the foundation of better decisions and stronger leadership.

  • Confidence: not bravado, but belief in one’s own value and voice.

  • Emotional intelligence: the key to effective teams, strong communication and

    empathy.

  • Purpose and clarity: knowing not just what you do, but why you want to do it.

  • Better relationships: within teams, across departments and with clients.

  • Resilience and adaptability: essential traits for dealing with challenging situations.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills: skills that improve both efficiency and impact.

The result? More harmonious and efficient team dynamics, improved staff retention and more effective leadership. But the effects of executive coaching go beyond the workplace. When people build emotional awareness and self-trust, it ripples into every part of their lives.

We can show up as ourselves, trust that everything we have is within us and learn to ‘dance in the moment’ of what comes up

I don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach to coaching. 1:1 sessions aren’t scripted or structured – and for me, that’s the beauty in it! We can show up as ourselves, trust that everything we have is within us and learn to ‘dance in the moment’ of what comes up during the session. Over time, we build a trusted relationship rooted in honesty, curiosity and growth. A coaching conversation is like no other and the wonderful thing is, every coach will have a different approach and bring a different energy to the session. So, it really is about finding the right ‘fit’ for you.

But once you do, a coaching relationship can become truly transformational.
