Meet one of our Non-Executive Directors: Simon Wingfield

This #volunteersweek we want to say a big thank you to the fantastic Non Executive Directors (NED's) that help us carry out our small acts of kindness across Norfolk! With a variety of professional backgrounds and skills, they help us to define and steer our strategy, providing their expertise on a voluntary basis. But what does it mean to be a Non-Executive Director of a social enterprise?

Meet Simon Wingfield, one of our 'NED's' at Rippleacts as he talks about his role and why he joined the board.

Q. What drew you to becoming a 'NED' of Rippleacts?

I was inspired by two things. Firstly,  the opportunity to support a brilliant social enterprise that uses an evidence-based approach to bring positive changes to people's lives. Secondly, Verena's vision and enthusiasm to grow.

Q. Why do you think volunteering is important?

A. There is a 'hidden army' of volunteers in Norfolk that do amazing (and often unseen) work supporting individuals and organisations. I am always inspired by local charities, social enterprises, and community organisations who help others to thrive. Volunteering is a great way to make a difference, leverage your knowledge and skills, and have fun!

Q. What's the best thing about being a 'NED' for Rippleacts?

A. Firstly, playing a volunteer role in shaping the future of Rippleacts to drive positive change in others. Secondly, the Board are a fantastic bunch of people who work well as a team. Thirdly, Verena always brings nice food to our meetings!

Q. What would you say to anyone considering becoming a Trustee of a small charity or social enterprise?

A. Just do it. You will always find a local charity or social enterprise that you can feel inspired about. Everybody has attributes that can make a real difference locally.
