You might of heard of cognitive behavioural therapy but what exactly is cognitive behavioural coaching (CBC)?
One of our most important offers here at Rippleacts is our holistic cognitive behavioural group coaching course.
Cognitive behavioural coaching (CBC) works in a similar way to therapy as it aims to brings awareness to our - often subconscious - thoughts about situations and how they make us feel, and then learn and practice to reframe these thoughts in a more self-supportive way. Whilst CBT is a form of psychotherapy used to treat mental health issues and is typically practiced 1:1, coaching is a short-term approach supporting clients to work towards achieving their personal goals. Our coaching takes place mostly in a group setting led by experienced and certified life coaches, enabling participants to benefit from shared experiences within a safe environment.
Participants are gently encouraged to consider and share the barriers and emotions they feel are stopping them from getting into work and then step-by-step learn to unpack and challenge them. Part of our work is also to help participants consciously notice, accept and embrace certain feelings, and not become debilitated by them. For example, imagine how it feels to deliver a speech in front of a large audience, your heart might be racing and you might be a little shaky. Now, imagine you are about to do something exciting like go on a roller coaster, is your heart racing again? It’s the same feeling but a different context.
While our group sessions are centred around the cognitive-behavioural approach, we use a wide array of methods and activities, including those inspired by humanistic and positive psychology, as well as artistic and somatic practices.
Delivered by accredited and professional coaches, these sessions help participants become more self-accepting and self-compassionate, strengthen confidence, define goals and reduce negative self beliefs, encouraging participants to discover and pursue what they really value in life.
Coaching is the first step for our participants in reducing barriers to employment and the feedback from participants shows that our coaching work helps them make a genuine difference. Over 60% of them find themselves closer to getting back into work either through employment, volunteering or going back into education.
These sessions can be tailored to a variety of different audiences including those already in work but looking to improve their performance or leadership skills.
